Sharp at any length

The superior resolving power of this lens ensures consistently superb results. A fluorite element enables high transmission rates with minimal chromatic aberration. Eight ED glass elements ensure images with vivid colour and perfectly rendered contrast all the way to the edge of the frame. And Nikon’s antireflective Nano Crystal Coat ensures clear images with minimal flare and ghosting, even in backlit conditions.

Steady at speed

Shoot without worrying about the effects of camera shake. VR technology activates the instant you press the shutter halfway and enables shooting speeds up to four stops slower than otherwise possible.* SPORT VR mode delivers a more stable viewfinder image, which is helpful when shooting exceptionally fast action, or when panning.

Perfectly balanced

Perfectly balanced

Typical zoom- and focus-ring positions are reversed for more balanced handling. With the zoom ring positioned towards the front of the barrel, directly below your hand, it’s easier to maintain a steady posture when zooming. Both the zoom and focus rings boast a knurled covering that enables a firm grip for smooth control. The tripod collar ring includes bearings to ensure smooth switching between horizontal and vertical orientations. And the integrated tripod foot faces the front of the lens for optimum balance and more comfortable transportation when the lens is attached to a tripod.

Field ready

Every movable part of the lens barrel is sealed to protect from dust and water droplets. A fluorine coating actively repels water, dust, and dirt without compromising image quality. A fluorite lens element helps keep the weight down. And because you’ll have to change lenses in the field far less frequently, your Nikon DSLR’s image sensor gets exposed to the elements far less often too.
